Food Stamps for Pets

This is a grrrrrrreat idea...food stamps for pets. While researching financial aid options for a relatives sick dog, I stumbled across a  new donation-based program called Pet Food Stamps. This program provides food stamps for pets of low-income families who, because of current circumstances, are struggling ot unable to feed their pets. Over 45,000 pets signed up in the first 2 weeks of operation.  This is a privately funded, not a government, program. Unfortunately the program is only available to anyone in the USA.

Only in the USA?  So I started digging.. and you know how much I love to dig!
I unearthed a website named Pets of the Homeless http://www.petsofthehomeless.org/
This organization provides veterinary care an pet food to the homeless in both Canada and the USA.
This organization only has 4 collection sites in Canada, all in Ontario.

SICK DOG NEEDS HELP

Can you help Daisy before her time runs out?

Daisy lives in Edmonton. She is very ill. The lymph glands in her neck are swollen, she won't eat, is very thirsty and drinks, but vomits it right back up.

She is becoming weaker and thinner day, by day.

Daisy is the joy of her family's lives.. Her family consists of a single mom  and  her adult son. The mom lost her job almost a year ago. She   is responsible for and cares for her adult son who was born with spina bifida and struggles with severe and debilitating depression.

They live a very simple and meager life. They use public transportation,  have rented out the extra room in their home and do without anything but the basics. With barely enough to live on,  they have somehow managed to create a happy home life..

When you  walk into their house the first thing you notice is the love. It envelopes you like a warm breeze. Daisy greets everyone with a wagging tail and climbs up on the sofas to snuggle and be a part everything that happens. Her presence in this family is enormous.

The groups and associations, including the rescue organisations, we have contacted in Alberta cannot help unless Daisy is surrendered. This family has no extra money to take Daisy to the vet, even on a payment plan. The vet clinics I've contacted won't see her, even for a consultation, with out charging them.

I can't imagine the distress it would cause Daisy to be given up when she is already distress by her illness.
Nor can I imagine how heartbreaking and stressful it would be for her owners, especially for the young man who's had Daisy faithfully at his side, through his own illness.

I cant afford to take on Daisy's veterinary care alone, maybe as a community of pet owners we can come together and assist Daisy in getting the care she so desperately needs.

Please, if anyone  has any ideas or solutions, send Barbara or Roy or myself an email.

Thank you!

Golf Day

My parents are playing golf tomorrow. I'm going to a staff meating (I'm hoping that means everyone gets to eat a bi thick steak!), then I'll watch Emily teach a class (I'm hoping I can learn something and impress her), the out to Emily's acreage!

I'm so exited about going to see Emily and going to her acreage! That's where all dogs run free!
It's my first home in the Pacific, before my furever home.

By the way, the Pacific Ocean is not an ocean of milk....it's just water, delicious, salty water!

BOGEY THE BEACHBUM

I'm at the beach!

Pebbles and sand shift beneath my paws as I run and jump and play. The smell of salt and seaweed assaults my senses and arouses my curiosity.

I run with timid excitement along the tide line as the icy ocean licks at my legs and tickles my tummy. The lapping waves hiss quietly as they recede.

My dad throws sticks into the water, ripples appear and temptation overcomes my wariness.

I rush headlong into the sea, the briny cold bites at me like thousands of little shark teeth. I grab my tasty prize and excitedly rush for shore. My hind legs pushing off a forces that causes me to leap out and bound ahead in and out of the water, towards my dad.

A game!  A whoosh and sploosh, another stick goes flying out, over and into the water.

PLAYING FETCH IN THE OCEAN
I watch it bob up and down as I run out towards it. Suddenly the sand beneath me falls away and I splash wildly.

I turn and head back for shore, looking over my shoulder longingly at the driftwood dancing just out of my reach.

I really want to swim out as a big dog would. But, I'm just a baby, with big dog aspirations.

I wasn't afraid. Well .maybe just a little bit.
I LOVE DRIFTWOOD

As I reach the shore my eyes scan the beach and I realize this playground is littered with endless tasty, smelly treasure, large and small.

Hot diggity dog!  There's no need to fetch those delightful tidbits of driftwood from the icy water. I gather the choicest bits large and small on the beach and gnaw away till my hearts content.

Island Beach Adventure

We spent the past two days at the beach.

I taught my dad how to throw a stick, He learns quickly!

I splashed in the water and ran on the beach, dug holes in the sand and had a dog gone great time.

I'm not sure about swimming... I'm kinda scared when my 'willy' gets wet and cold... but only a little bit!
Maybe if dad goes in and gets his wet, I'll know its ok then I won't be afraid to go a bit deeper. :)

I met a dog named Cooper. He's tiny and cute. I know he's NOT afraid 'cause he was soaking wet and not shivering at all. He's a brave little guy. Maybe one day I'll be as brave as him.

Fetching sticks again, and again, and again, is kinda tiring, so afterwards we all had a big nap.

Justin Bieber's on TV

Justine Bieber is on TV. I don't understand what the big deal is. I have better hair, brighter eyes and I have bigger muscles than he does! I even have better moves.

I know I sing better and louder, just ask my dad. I sang to him for two hours, while mom was out. And, no, I do not have separation anxiety! Well, maybe jut a little bit.

Bones

I have a plan.... If I lay in the middle of the kitchen floor when my mom's cooking, I'll be in the way and if I give her sad eyes, she'll give me a lovely pork bone to eat and play with on the deck.

Sit, Stay, Shake a Paw

I learned to sit on command, stay on command and shake-a-paw on command. I just love it when they praise me and make a fuss over me. Sometimes I like it so much I turn into a mush ball when they pat me.  It makes me feel soooooo good!

Who knew that doing normal stuff would reap such yummy rewards! Who's teaching who, now?

Note to self ... Investigate sitting on a dining room chair. May lead to being rewarded with a plate of that human stuff. (NO hot dogs, please.. I am not a cannibal.)
